Formed in Orange County in 1978, Social Distortion have spent more than four decades shaping American punk in their own stubborn, blues-streaked image. Led by Mike Ness – one of the scene’s most distinctive voices – the band forged a sound that pulled from early rock’n’roll as much as hardcore: raw, melodic and rooted in lived experience. Their most recent record, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, showed a band still evolving, leaning into bigger arrangements and the Americana influences that have long sat beneath the distortion.
