Martin Hayes is one of the most influential figures in Irish traditional music, a violinist whose playing carries the weight of East County Clare’s heritage while pushing the tradition into new territory. Across a career that has taken him from small-town sessions to major concert halls, Hayes has collaborated with artists spanning folk, classical and experimental worlds, including Dennis Cahill, Bill Frisell, Jordi Savall, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road ProjectHe’s earned accolades on both sides of the Atlantic, from TG4’s Musician of the Year to the BBC and RTÉ’s instrumental honours, along with an honorary doctorate recognising his impact on Irish culture. As a founding member of The Gloaming, he helped create one of the most celebrated contemporary Irish ensembles, touring globally and winning the Meteor Prize for their debut. Whether performing for President Obama or curating festivals like Masters of Tradition, Hayes continues to bring his unique flair to the age-old traditions of Irish music.
